Fall weather is more enjoyable to get out and do things with your family. Here are some fun fall family activities to do with your family this season.

Fall Family Activities

1. Head to a Farm

I didn’t realize until I had a toddler that there were farms you could visit. Head over to a farm and spend a few hours outside. You can usually see plenty of farm animals and they may even have additional fall activities!

2. Pumpkin Patch

For a special kind of fall activity, head to a pumpkin patch where your family can pick out their own pumpkins. There are usually a few around that let you pick them right out of the field. Some other options are to stop at places where they’ve already cut them for you and have them sorted by size.

You might even be able to find some grocery stores that have a “Pumpkin Fest” type of event. These can offer good deals on pumpkins and gourds and sometimes have activities for children.

In any fashion, kids will love running around all the pumpkins and getting to pick their own out.

3. Corn Maze

Another fun fall family activity is going to a corn maze. It can be fun to wander through and explore the maze with your family.

Some corn mazes might also offer additional activities such as cider and face painting that can make for a good day of family fun.

4. Decorate Pumpkins

For younger kids, painting pumpkins can be kind of fun. Grab some kid-friendly paints from the store and let their imaginations go.

Carving pumpkins is the other way to go. These days there are lots of free patterns you can find on the internet. You can also purchase the books from the store with the carving tools that make carving the pumpkin a bit easier.

I’ve found that my daughter loves both options, even though she couldn’t help a lot with the carving in the past.

5. Leaf Piles

Leaf piles are a simple joy for children. They can jump into them or help you rake them. If you have enough leaves, making an entire leaf fort might be an option.

6. Leaf Art

Sticking with leaves for a moment, there are also some craft options.

Collect leaves from your yard and then have your child glue them to a piece of paper for some creative artwork. If your child is a bit older, you could start by having them draw the base of a tree and stick their leaves around the tree.

You can also collect the leaves and paint them. A fun option is to get some really good spray paint and spray one side, then flip them over and do the other side. If you get a nice glaze, the leaves can harden really nicely to be set around for decorations for the year.

7. Look at Leaves

Take a nice drive to look at the fall colors. To make it even more fun, find a nice restaurant or park to check out at the end.

8. Hikes

Go on a fall hike in the forest. The fall weather can make for a more enjoyable hike than you’d have in the summer. Plus, you can check out the leaf colors up close.

9. Apple Picking

Find a local orchard and take the family apple picking. It makes for some nice time outside doing something different.

Plus, in the end, you’ll have some delicious apples to eat.

10. Bake Together

Take those apples from the orchard and bake a delicious dessert together.

Bake anything together. Kids love to help bake, so use your imagination. You can do cookies, bars, or cupcakes.

To make it even more fun, let the kids decorate the treats afterward. If you want to be extra fancy, check out Pinterest for some fall-specific dessert decorating ideas.

11. Create a Haunted House

Create an age-appropriate haunted house in your home or yard. Get creative by using things from around your house. The kids can even have fun decorating the haunted house by coloring cardboard or hanging paper decorations around.

Then, invite some friends over to go through the haunted house with you.

12. Watch Halloween Movies

Find some fun Halloween movies to watch with your family. Some fun options are “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” or “Casper”.

13. Fall-Themed Ginger Bread House

Similar to Christmas gingerbread houses, stores are now selling kits for Halloween-themed gingerbread houses. You kids can create a spooky haunted house style to decorate and enjoy.

Try a Few Fall Family Activities

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. The weather becomes more comfortable, the leaves become beautiful, and there is so much fun that can be had with your family.

We typically only do a few of the activities above each year. Fitting in all of them would be too busy for our family. We always end up having fun together.

Try some of the above fall family activities with your kids and let us know how they worked out for you!
