Dating in the summer can be a lot of fun. Especially up here in Wisconsin where the weather is beautiful and you can finally get outside to enjoy the outdoors. I’ve compiled a fun list of summer date ideas: covid edition.
While things in the covid world seem to be getting slightly better, a lot of people are still being careful. The list of date ideas I’ve compiled keeps that in mind. That means, bringing lots of the date ideas to the great outdoors.
There is so much to do outside during the summer months. Why not enjoy it with your partner? There are so many benefits of continuing to regularly date your spouse. (**INSERT LINK TO WINTER DATE IDEAS**) or find article that covers them
List of Summer Date Ideas During Covid-19
Summer has always been a great season for me when it comes to hanging out with my husband. We like to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.
Here is a list of great summer date ideas for during covid-19!
1. Go on a Hike
Hiking is one of my husband’s and my favorite dates. In fact, it is what we did on our very first date!
Look up some of your local state parks and find a trail to hike! It is a good way to chat and catch up while also seeing some good scenery and enjoying the weather.
2. Kayaking or Paddle Boarding
Live near water? Consider doing kayaking or paddleboarding as a date. Many places have kayak and paddleboard rentals and some even have guided tours you can go on.
I’m always partial to water activities, so these are fun ones for me!
3. Boating
If one of you has a boat, going out onto the lake for a few hours or a day can make for a great getaway. You can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake or river and maybe even fish or swim while you’re at it.
There is a spot on the lake where my parent’s cottage is where all the boats gather up for a fun day of swimming and water time. It could make for a great date as well!
4. Go Out for a Cool Treat
Let’s face it – summer can be HOT. A fun way to cool down and get a good date in is going out for a cool treat. Around here there are so many great options for ice cream or even smoothies!
If you take it to go, you might be able to enjoy a nice walk together or find a shady bench or outside seating to enjoy your treat at.
5. Mini-Golf
This might not be a super conventional date for adults, but mini-golfing is a fun activity! It gets you outside where you can enjoy the usually pretty fun landscape of a mini-golf course.
6. Camping
Similar to the hotel option I suggested in my winter date ideas, camping can be a fun little getaway.
Around here, campsites are numerous, so you don’t have to travel far if you don’t want. It can just be a nice local, change of scenery, where you can have a chance to reconnect and spend some time together.
7. Campfire
Having a campfire in your own yard can make for a great date! It is so peaceful to sit outside and enjoy the evening. Plus, you can always make up some s’mores if you’re feeling hungry!
For even more fun, you could invite a few friends to shake it up a little bit. Before we had our daughter, having a group campfire was one of our favorite things to do.
8. Yard Games
These days there are so many fun yard games you can get. Some of my personal favorites are croquet, ladder golf, and ring toss.
However, if you want to invite some friends you could do bad mitten or volleyball.
9. Outdoor Gun Range
If one or both of you enjoys shooting, heading to an outdoor gun range can be a fun getaway. You can have some fun trying out your guns and seeing you has the best shot.
10. Outdoor Movie
Around here we still have a few outdoor movie theatres. They provide a fun and unique experience! It is always kind of fun to watch a movie from your car while enjoying all the usual movie snacks.
11. Picnic
Have an old-school picnic. Find a nice park, pack your favorite foods, and enjoy each other’s company! It is a great way to enjoy your meal in a different location.
12. Biking
If you’re feeling adventurous, you could try biking. There are fat-tire bikes you can rent and take on some cool trails. It’s a great way to get in some physical activity and enjoy each other’s company.
13. Tubing
One of the cool activities we have around here is tubing. There are quite a few businesses that have tubes you can rent and float down a river on. Then, they will pick you up and return you to the original location.
It can be a fun way to sit back and enjoy some adult beverages, well cooling your toes in the water.
14. Evening Drinks on Patio
This is one I picked up from one of my favorite influencers, Amy Kiefer (link Instagram). For a periodic date, she and her husband will enjoy a late dinner and some drinks outside on their patio.
15. Farmer’s Market
Heading out to a local farmer’s market can make for a great date. You can purchase your favorite fruits and veggies then cook a nice meal together afterward! Around here, our farmer’s markets can have even more.
Many times local restaurants will be there selling a few of their dishes and there might even be some crafts to look at.
16. Berry Picking
Summer is a great time to get out there and pick some of your own fruit. There is just something extra tasty about fresh-picked fruit. Not only that, but the experience can be kind of interesting and enjoyable!
We took our daughter strawberry picking in June and she had a blast looking for red berries to pick off the plant.
Afterward, I made a delicious strawberry crisp that we all enjoyed.
17. Amusement Park
If you’re feeling up to more crowds, going to an amusement park is a fun way to spend a day. There is always a lot of interesting people watching involved, plus all the fun roller coasters and water rides makes for a great date!
18. Fairs
Again, if you’re feeling okay with crows, heading to a local fair can be fun. We have a lot of county fairs around here that offer music and plenty of delicious deep-fried goodies.
If you’re feeling more of a theme, see if there is a renaissance fair near you! It can be fun to see everyone dressed up for it and they offer a lot of cool shows to watch.
